Welcome to Romeion's Ramblings

My photo
This site is a collection of some of my writings and innermost expressions. I am a Journalism student who welcomes every opportunity to express myself through my writing and use this medium to, in my own small way, effect change in the lives of everyone with whom I come in contact. I absolutely love every aspect of the arts and anything that allows one to creatively express themselves. Consequently, I am a graphic artist, a musician and a soccer player. Life is all about expression and it is my hope that persons who come in contact with this medium will leave with renewed vigor and the urge to express themselves and start a domino-effect of change that will help to make life for mankind better.

Music is a Healing

"Music is a healing with righteous feelings..."

These are words penned by a young man aged 18, who was an entrant in the rising stars competition. His name was Natel. When he performed,he had the entire Jamaica, and even the simple Nadine Sutherland, rocking to his tunes. Persons lauded him for the wisdom in his lyrics and the profundity in his character that separated him from the average teenagerr of his time. However, do we really know what music is?

Some would describe music as the feeble attempt of some our dancehall artistes to 'chat on a beat' or to 'ride the rythm.' The very poetic descriptions of womens' private parts by someone who may have seen a vagina only because cows don't wear underwear, may be music to some. For others it may be the political ramblings of someone claiming to come from the ghetto while for others it may be the invitations to 'tek off somethin, fling it on the ground...' or a bunch of guys declaring their mental instability ('mad, sick, head no good' etc). But is this really music?

I want toagree with Shakespeare in The Twelfth Night and say that music is the food of love. Boyz to Men sang a song in which they described a mother's love as 'food to my [the] soul.' Music, i believe,is supposed to feed the soul, and feed the soul well.

Songs like - 'cool as the breeze' by I-Wayne, 'rise to the occasion' by Sizzla, 'prayer changes things' by R. Kelly and in a very rare moment, 'never love another girl' by Vybz Kartel- are songs that have meaning. This are songs that tel of real life experiences that resonates with each and every one of us in our own reality.

Music is not apopularity contest! Music is a process; and at the heart of this process are positive thoughts and conscious reflections.

Anywhere you come accross a piece of music that effects these sorts of feelings, then you would have met upon good music.

Chat bout!!!
