The great irony that is politics

Has anyone failed to see the folly and scant disregard for the American people that Presidential hopeful John McCain has displayed in his selection of Sarah Palin as his running mate? I am by no means an American but living in this country, it would be foolish of me, not to pay attention to the most important decisions that will in turn affect my life (at least i hope i still have it when all this is done). Maybe i'm just another uniformed blogger whose comments are nothing more than an extension of the bad publicity that has been in the media since the start of the election season.

I am a twenty-one year old college student who by some persons standards, know nothing about the 'real world' but i think i know enough to know when something stinks. Mr. McCain's selection of a woman he hardly knows and whose only noteworthy characteristic is that she is pro-life. It has become increasingly apparent that a stance on Roe v Wade trumps experience anytime to the republican party.

This is the same woman who has displayed little interest in international politics and little concern for any thing outside of her constituency in Alaska. The same woman that has held a US passport for little more than a year, and the only reason she has one is so that she could visit "Alaskan troops" in Iraq. Maybe it's just me but i think that this woman would be best suited to stay in Wasilla.

Mr. McCain has tried for some time, since the start of his campaign really, to distance himself from the negative image that people have of republicans because of George Bush, but is unfortunately making the same mistakes that Bush made when he "appointed so many incompetents because they were sound on Roe v Wade." (Economist.com) Smart move John.

So while the republicans criticize a man who has opted for experience, merit and pure strength of character in his selection of Joe Biden, and choose a gun-toting pro-life soon to be grandmother (what's the literary device in there?), the American people are watching and are paying close attention. I guess all that's left to say will come form the President Obama's office in the form of a big 'Thank you' letter addressed to John McCain.

But what do i know? I'm just a 21 year old college student from Jamaica.
